This is a perfectly good idea, poorly executed.Flatbed scanners and even dedicated slide scanners are absurdly slow and difficult to use.The concept of this device is to combine a light box and a digital camera in one convenient unit.I would happily pay $500 for such a device that is easy to use and produced high quality images. Unfortunately, this device falls unnecessarily short on both counts. The image quality is sharp, the colors even are quite good. But the contrast is so severe that the images, frankly, are almost totally unusable.Anything light is completely burned without any detail. Anything darker is almost black.Their "auto adjust" needs to have some sort of manual controls. It has none.At [...]I have posted a scan from this scanner along side a photo I took of the slide with a point and shoot camera.Notice that the scanner burned the light part of her chest to white while her face is almost black. No amount of Photoshop rework can recover the detail that is simply gone. This is very frustrating. If I can get this result with a crude setup with a point and shoot camera, it should not be hard to make a box like this that works. Also, the slide tray is tricky to open and unload without dumping out the slides. A little break in the edges of the slide guides would allow a fingernail to pop out the slide.Even better: A way just to lay the slide in the device without needing a cumbersome locking holder. This is so, so frustrating. They could make this perfect for almost no extra money. The idea is great. They mean well. I really hope they will make these design changes. As it is, I will be forced to return it.Again, I really hope they can fix the contrast problem. If they can do that, this would be a gem.

The convertor works great. It is a very slow process because the slide tray will only hold three slides at a time. With hundreds to convert, this will take a while.

I bought the iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner at the Brookstone in the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville a few weeks ago. My main purpose in purchasing this product was to be able to scan all of my Mom and Dad's old family slides and convert them to digital pictures. I have probably about 1,000 or slightly more that I need to scan and work with. The iConvert scanner is so easy to use..all you have to do it put the CD into your PC (I recommend use with Windows Vista) and download the software. After that, it's simply a matter of scanning your slides. Only drawback is that the slide holder only holds 3 slides at a time, whereas the negative scanner holds 6. I've gotten this down to a science now: all you have to do is open the software on your PC, Press Ctrl+G, Arrow down once, choose the radio button as to whether you're scanning a slide or a negative, then OK. Stick the slide or negative holder containing the 3 slides or 6 negatives into the scanner until the first image appears onscreen in the box, allow it about 5-7 seconds to focus and adjust to the best colors, then press the scan button on the scanner, and move along to the next one. Once you have up to 12 images loaded, select each one using Ctrl+Select and make sure each is framed in green, then press scan. That's it! Easy as can be, and you move on to the next set and do the same thing. I highly recommend this scanner!

I was looking for a product that worked with Vista and this does. It's a little tricky at first getting the scan to get the colors right, but with a little practice, I was able to scan some 30 year old slides with pretty good clarity. The negative scan does work, the the colors don't quite look the same as the hard copies. I'm glad I bought this, though. I'll be able to preserve some memories and share them with family now.

We scanned almost 3500 slides (from 1959 to date) and had no trouble. The program is VERY easy to do. We are both retired, over 65, and had no trouble following the instructions. We would highly recommend this product. VERY easy to use. It really is 1, 2 and 3. The ONLY drawback is another holder for slides would make it a little easier when scanning. BUT don't let that stop you from puchasing this wonderful product. It automatically adjusts color on the photos and our slides from 1959 looked just great. Very happy with this produce.

This is a decent product, but has shortcomings with the scanning adjustments. There is no manual adjustment feature. It seems to try to determine the brightness of the slide, and does not do that well. I found if you let it adjust empty, then put the slide in, it will do a better job. But you have to hit the snapshot button when it looks good, otherwise it will continue to auto adjust. The photo editing software they provide is no good, you should use a program like Adobe Photoshop Elements or similar to get full functionality to fix the scans.
If their driver software included some brightness and contrast sliders, this would help immensely with scans. Otherwise, the scans are clear and sharp.

We want to put our many slides onto CD's. It really is as easy as 1, 2 and 3. We think we would like another slide holder because we want back up in case something happens to the one that came with the scanner. You don't have to be an expert, honestly. We bought this after reading other reviews and are very happy to include our results. Some products say it is easy and to our sorrow, they were not. THIS PRODUCT IS EASY, TRUST ME.

I based my purchase on comments from this forum. I have not been disappointed. I have thousands of slides (no negatives) to scan and hope that the scanner can live that long! I had no trouble setting up the software or using the program. I use PhotoShop to clean up the images. I did not find the 3 slide tray to be a problem. Two cons: one, the default setting for quality should be set to "highest quality" and not "normal" quality. It needs to be reset every time after you plug or un-plug the scanner; and two, the darks are too dark and the lights are too bright. You will need to do a trial and error to capture the image at the right time.

Now I can do it myself. I only wish it worked faster. I had planned to share it, but because of the speed factor (or lack of) I will buy one for my father-in-law to use instead of sharing my own.

Instruction manual isn't the greatest but the product loaded on Vista and is working fine for both slides and negatives.

Picture quality isn't the best but can be improved with a little experimentation.

I used to convert slides to JPG and it works fine. Most of the slides were 30+ years old. It did a good job of reproducing the slides. The only complaint is it only does three at a time and is relatively slow. However, it did the job.

I have started a big job of converting over 2200 slides from the 60's on up. It is very easy to set up and use. I counted on the reviews from this site and they didn't disappoint. This iConvert is outstanding. The only reason I would recommend the very reasonable product replacement plan is I am giving this baby quite the workout!

We bought this for my Father. Ever since he received it, he's been sending between 5 and 20 pictures to me a day from when I was a little girl. The product is fantastic and I think it's the best gift we've ever given him. He's really enjoying it. He has thousands of slides and he's going to scan every one of them.

The Scanner was given to me as a gift from the kids. I'm copying 46 year old slides (the only way we took pics back then!). A slide holder that held more slides would be useful but the main problem I'm running up against is that the edges of my slides are cut off by the slide holder. Does anyone know if larger "window" holders are available?

    Doesn’t Work On Older/Slower Systems :(

    Describe Yourself:

    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This Scanner is about the best for your buck. If you are unable or unwilling to spend $500 for a slide/negative scanner then this is the one for you. The quality is very good for what you pay for. However, beware there are no minimum system requirements stated for this scanner. I tried it on my father's 1.4Ghz 256mb RAM PC and the scanner pegged out the CPU at 100% making the scanner unusable. If I had to guess, you will need a 2.0GHZ 512mb RAM system to run this scanner. Also, please keep in mind that the slide magazine only holds 3 slides, so scanning will be some what tedious if you have a lot to do. Other than that I would highly recommend this product for budget-minded people!

The product works as advertized and the reviewers are correct about the problems with the slide holder, but the big problem I have experienced is that most, if not all, of the copies are overexposed. Is there any way to cut the time of exposure? Trying to correct the copy brightness and/or contrast does not seem to work.

This seems better then a camera attachment I have tryed. It seems a little faster on the transfering of slides. Wish it came with a better manual, too small type. Also a better photo editing software, and more info on brighting and darking of slides for better prints to be made. Also if there were Positive slide holders available for purchase, it would help speed up the process by having two people working on the project.

I am thrilled. My dad passed away a few years ago and all his old family photos were on 35 mm slides. Not likely I'll be setting up his old projector to see these, but now I can see them and make CDs for family members. I am absolutely delighted! Best thing I've found in years at Brookstone. THANK YOU!!!!!!

I am reviewing slides made in the 1950s and 1960s that are not easily observed because 35mm slide projectors are no longer in vogue. We do not sit down as a group to review the slides; however, individually we might review the slides on our computers if they are digitized. This product makes it happen!

Bought this for my 82-year-old dad, so he could scan in old slides. He got it working on his own, although he did point out the mechanism for the slides is rather difficult and fragile. He needed my help to figure out where the scanned in slides were on his computer, which I got by googling the model number and looking through the manual.
